Position Overview:
We are seeking a talented AWS RDS PostgreSQL Expert to join our dynamic team. As a key member of our technical operations, you will be responsible for the design, implementation, and maintenance of our PostgreSQL database solutions on AWS RDS. Your expertise will play a crucial role in ensuring optimal performance, scalability, and reliability of our database infrastructure. To build our services, we use a wide range of technologies, such as: Python, Django, Kafka, Next.js, Typescript, RDS, Aurora, PostgreSQL, PostGIS, Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform, AWS, Graph DB.
Responsibilities
- Design, deploy, and maintain PostgreSQL database instances on AWS, RDS, Aurora.
- Document database architecture, processes, and procedures.
- Optimize database performance and ensure high availability and security.
- Implement backup, restore, and disaster recovery strategies.
- Monitor database health and proactively address issues.
- Troubleshoot database-related issues and performance bottlenecks.
- Collaborate with development teams to design database schemas, indexes, and queries.
- Implement and enforce database security policies and procedures.
- Stay current with PostgreSQL and AWS RDS/Aurora best practices and trends.
- Document database architecture, processes, and procedures.
Required Skills and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 10+ years’ experience in managing databases on AWS
- 10+ years’ experience of PostgreSQL architecture, replication, and clustering.
- RDS/Aurora, including installation, configuration, and performance tuning.
- Experience with database monitoring and management tools (e.g., CloudWatch, PGanalyze, Grafana).
- Expert in RDBMS principles, database design and normalization
- Strong proficiency in SQL and query optimization techniques.
- Familiarity with AWS services (EC2, S3, IAM, etc.) and networking concepts.
- Experience with database security practices and compliance (e.g., GDPR, etc.).
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Experience with agile software development and DevOps principles
Bonus Skills
- Domain experience in Supply-Chain and/or the Transportation industry.
- Experience delivering a B2B SaaS product to production.
- Software architecture & design experience
- Experience with Data Lake, Lakehouse, DeltaTables, Iceberg, Athena and/or some other tech that we use for data stores.
- AWS certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Database – Specialty).
- Experience with other database technologies (MySQL, etc.).
- Scripting skills (e.g., Python, Bash) for automation tasks.
- Experience with DevOps practices and tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible).
